400 Churches To Chose From....

i've heard there are over 400 churches in my city. i believe it, sometimes it seems like there's a church on every corner. i checked the phone book, and there are 6 1/2 pages (front & back) of churches listed.  When i relized i needed to find a new church, knowing there are so many wasn't a comfort. How was i to find the one church God wanted me in, with so many all around me?
i found where i belong, but it seems like it's taken me my whole life to get here. Something really ironic is that my grandparents really love Southside Baptist Church, and took me when i was little. i don't remember the church, but i remember their missions house where my grandparents stayed. i spent so many weekends there, but we would always go to my parents church on Sunday morning. So, except for the missions house, i pretty much forgot about Southside, it was just a church i drove pass in a town with over 400 churches. My family started attending a church in Fair Grove, and they've been there for about 7 years. i'm not gonna list all the reasons i left, it isnt important. All that's important it that i needed to leave. i spent over two years looking for a church. i visited many of my friends churches, and while i might have learned a lot, and really liked it, it just wasn't 'right'. i didn't have peace about it, i knew God had a place for me, i just hadn't found it yet. i had almost given up trying churches, i thought maybe God was trying to tell me to stay in my dad's church.
That's when a friend invited me to a lock-in at her church. That she even invited me was pretty cool, cause we had never actually met. She's in the Praise & Worship band, and i'm in choir, so we were facebook friends, but hadn't ever met. What's even more cool is that i decided to go! i don't usually go to stuff where i don't know anyone. But it sounded like fun, and i thought "Why not?". So, friday nite i pulled into the church parking lot, and you know what? Yep, it was that same church my grandparents always said was so great. After meeting my friend (who has since become one of my best girlfriends) i had a fantastic night!! i connected with so many of the kids, literally overnite; it was great! i really got to know them, and even agreed to go to camp with them. This was like half an hour after meeting them. i started going to their youth group on Wednsday nites, and then going to the Sunday morning services.
The lock-in was the first weekend in June, it's now the end of August and i plan on joining the church soon. After 3 months, i've found that i love this church, i find something new i like everytime i'm there. The people are amazing, i'm learning and growing so much. But most importantly, God has shown me that this is where i belong. This is my church.

My Angel

I've heard it said, that people come into our lives for a reason bringing something we must learn. And we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them. And we help them in return ♪

i remember his smile. His smile could light up a room. One look from him and i knew i was loved, even when i felt the most unlovable. i miss his laugh the most. Just hearing him laugh made you look around and smile. And he loved to laugh.

He is my big brother. He is my best friend. He is my greatest support. He is the one always pushing me to go after my dreams. He is the one that believes in me the most. He is the one that loves me the most. He is the one person i can't live without. Except that i am. i have no choice, you see. God decided his time here was finished.
Some of you may say "What big brother? You don't have a big brother." Well, you're wrong. Just because you never knew him doesn't mean he never existed.
He came into my life when i needed him the most. i felt alone and unloved. My parents were having problems, and didn't see what was going on in my life. They didn't see the bullies, the mean girls. They didn't hear the taunts, or see the cold stares. They never heard the whispering, the laughing. They were to busy with their life to notice mine falling apart. i can't say i'm angry with my parents. If i hadn't needed him so badly, maybe i wouldn't have ever met him.
He showed me that i was loved. By someone that didn't 'have' to love me. By him, but more importantly, by God. He showed me that i matter. That i'm not just a kid, that i'm someone special. He showed me i deserve to be loved at a time i didn't believe i was worth anything. He made me laugh. He held me when i cried. He told me stories, and all about his life. He listened to me, like no one has ever listened to me. He made me feel that i was the most important person in his life.
He was 19 and i was 12. An unlikely combination, but somehow it worked for us. For a short while, he was my life. And my whole world was made better with him in it. He wasn't perfect. But i see no reason to list his imperfections. That wasn't what made him so special.
Sometimes i wonder what my life would be like if he had lived. We made so many plans, had so many years ahead of us. i'll never know what might have been. i don't need to. All i need to remember is what he taught me. He taught me the most important things i've ever learned. He taught me how to love. To look beyond the outward, and look at the heart. He showed me what a best friend looks like, and how to be one. Everyone matters. Sing with all your heart. Everyone needs a friend sometimes. Always smile. Focus on the positive. Most importantly: Always say i love you. You never know if you will see them again.
He was 4 months shy of his 20th birthday when he died. As i write this i am only 4 months away from my 20th birthday. i will outlive my older brother. It will be 7 years this Christmas. i sometimes wonder why he had to die so young. His life was just starting. He could have done so many amazing things. Touched so many more lives. i know God has his reasons, i just wish i could have said goodbye.
My Angel, i miss you so much, i think i always will. You changed me. i wouldn't be who i am today without you. You were my saviour, my protector, my brother, my friend. i love you. So, my Angel, i have finally done what i could never do when you were with me. i have spoken the truth. i love you. i always will. Someday i will tell you, when we're together again. But till then, please know, i love you.

♪ It well may be that we will never meet again in this lifetime. So let me say before we part so much of me is made of what I learned from you. You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart. And now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine, by being my friend...♪

Choir!

The Sing His Praises Home school Choir started Friday. The first thing we did was a placement test. We had to sing scales and read music and stuff like that. Being the genius i am, i decided to go to an amusement park the day before. i spent all day riding roller coasters, screaming, laughing and talking. Yea... not smart. The morning of the test i could barely talk, much less sing. i think that was the worst I've ever sung. Ever. Miss Krista is pretty awesome tho, she thought it was funny. We didn't really do much as a group Friday, it was mostly auditions for the higher level choir and the placement tests. I'm excited to get our music next week, i can't wait to see what miss Krista has planned for this year!

I'm pretty excited about choir this year. i know it will be very different from last year, but that's what i want!! i want a completely different experience. So, here are my goals for choir this year:
  1. Learn to read music.
  2. Sing at every practice and concert. (i tend to just mouth the words...)
  3. Talk to every kid in choir at least once.
  4. Spend time with my friends.
  5. Be on time every week.
  6. Don't skip theory...unless its a really good reason. like i'm bored, or if my friends skip too :p
  7. Try out for a solo. (i don't want a solo, i just want to try out for one)

What about you? Have you ever been in a choir? What did you love/hate about it?

True Love

i don't believe in true love. i don't believe in love at first sight. i don't believe we have a 'soul mate', that one person we're destined to be with. i don't believe in destiny either, but that's another subject. i don't believe love is a fuzzy feeling we have no control over. "I can't help it, i love him." Not true. Love isn't some crazy, passionate, emotion you can't control. True love is a choice. True love is when you decide to put someone else above yourself. To care more about their needs, wants, their happiness, and their life more than you care about your own.

i believe we, as fallen humans, are so consumed with ourselves, so full of pride and arrogance that we are not capable of true love. We are so caught up in our own needs and wants that we can't truly put another above ourselves in our affections. We are a fallen people. What was once part of God's plan is no longer possible for us. The most we will ever experience is a lesser love, one where we may care a great deal for someone, but it isn't unconditional and unbreakable as true love is.

As humans, we want what we can't have. "The grass is always greener..." and all that. i think that's why there are so many songs, stories and films about love. We're searching for what we don't, and can't, have.

What this means for me is that i will never 'fall in love'. i will never be in another serious relationship. i will never marry. i either put my all in something, or nothing at all. If i can't have true love, i don't want love at all. i'd rather live my life alone than settle for anything less then true love. i know i'm not capable of love, i've learned that. And i certainly don't deserve it. So i will simply not love at all. But of course it couldn't be that simple could it? As soon as i decided i don't believe in true love, i wanted it all the more. i devour fairy tales and love stories by the dozen. i crave love songs, listening to them as often as possible. As much as i tell myself i can't have love, i still long for it. i will never settle, i will never give in to a lesser love. But i know myself, even if i don't believe it is possible, i'll never give up hoping for it. i will spend the rest of my life searching for the unattainable treasure of True Love.

A Knotty Post

i like making things. i love sewing, and scrap-booking, but my latest 'thing' is making jewelry. i love making hemp jewelry, and friendship bracelets. Its so fun, and the finished product is so pretty!! Some people think its hard, but its really just a pattern of knots. Once you learn the pattern its easy (for me, anyway). Its a great project to do while watching tv, or listening to the radio. Sometimes i even work on a piece in the car if i'm not driving! And of course its super fun with friends!!

The top is a friendship bracelet, and under that is a hemp anklet.

A necklace i made out of metal rings and some really cool mother of pearl kinda things :p Its one of my fave pieces, i love it!!

"Dance with me, Daddy?"

My dad doesn't dance with me. Ever. He says he doesn't like dancing. That's fine. i completely understand, i didn't like it either till recently. But he's never danced with me. Not at the weddings we've been to, he didn't take me to the Father/Daughter dance at my school, not even as a little girl playing princess did my dad ever dance with me. My dad and i work on cars together, we talk about cars, science stuff, and movies. Sometimes we'll watch an episode of NCIS or CSI together. That's pretty much it. He doesn't know much about me, i don't know much about him. i wish it could be different. i wish i could tell him anything, let him know what i'm thinking, what i'm feeling. We just don't have that relationship. Maybe we will someday.... i don't really think so tho, we seem to be growing father apart, not closer. There's this song by Steven Curtis Chapman, "Cinderella". i love it, and hate it at the same time. It always makes me cry. i wish it could be like that with my dad.

She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders

It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad, I need you

There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone...

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone

Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Friends

This is my opinion of what a friend should be:

A friend should be encouraging. They should always be encouraging you to be a better you, to try new things and expirience life.

A friend should be loving, they should accept you for who you are, no matter what. They should never try to change you into what they want you to be. (this is different from wanting you to be a better person, this is manipulating you to be someone false)

A friend should be independent. They should be able to think for themselves, and not depend on you for eveything.

A friend should be someone you can confide in. They should be someone you can trust with anything. You should be able to trust them not to tell anyone, unless its to help you (like if you're thinking about suicide or running away or something. a real friend will tell someone who can help, not just watch you go down).

A friend should be someone you can have fun with!! Someone you can totally relax and be yourself around.

A friend should take an intrest in your life, and the things that are important to you. They dont have to love it, or even like it, but they should be willing to try something new if its important to you. And you never know, you might be surprised and find out you like something you never thought yo would. i know i did!!

The friend i've just described is perfect. No one is perfect, so all i'm saying is that we all should try to be this kind of friend. i'm trying, even tho i know i'll fail sometimes. But i know my friends will forgive me when i fall, and help me back up. They're just awesome like that! =D

i've been looking for friends like this for a long time, and i've found some. It's an amazing group of kids!! They accept me for me. They dont judge me on what i used to be like, or who i was with. They encourage me to be myself, and to be independent. i can tell them anything, we can talk for hours and still have so much to say. Or we can be quite together and it isnt awkward, its just quiet, and thats ok! i love them so much and i'm so glad they reached out to me. i never would have tried to become part of their group, if they hadn't been so welcoming to me. Because of them, i'm free to be whoever i want to be, and i still have friends!! A new concept for me. i pray i will be as good a friend to them as they are to me.

Fabric, Thread, and Needles, Oh My!!

i love creating things, especially with fabric. i make some of my own clothes, mostly just redesign stuff, but it's still really fun! This is a t-shirt i made out of three different colored tees. it was the first thing i made, so I'm pretty proud of it, even if it inst perfect (shhh, don't tell).
i want to be in costume design someday, like on Broadway or the West End in London. i don't want to work in Hollywood, like in the movie industry, i prefer the rush of a live production. There's nothing like backstage of a play, with 90 seconds to change an outfit or redo makeup. i love a challenge, and this setting offers the perfect one for me. I've thought about all different kinds of careers, this one is prolly the most challenging I've considered, but it's also the only one that excites me. The only career that i can see myself still loving years from now. i'm going to go to a Design School in my city, and hopefully, start an internship at a local theater. i hope to work in London someday, but i only want to live there for a few years (more about traveling later).

This is a classic redesign project:  jeans into a skirt, but i made it mine with a few fun little details like the applique on the pocket.

Prince Caspian

Prince Caspian

i read Prince Caspian for about the 17th time recently. i didn't have any particular reason for reading it, i just really love this book! Prince Caspian is the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia, written by C.S. Lewis. In this book, the four Pevensie children are called back to Narnia, after being away for about a year. They soon find that, due to the time difference between Narnia an their own world, hundreds, maybe a thousand years have passed since their reign. Once the children arrive at Cair Paravel they encounter Trumpkin the Dwarf. He tells them all that has been happening in Narnia the last few years. The children learn Narnia is in disarray, the Telmarines have invaded and silenced all the old Narnians. Prince Caspian is the leader of the old Narnians and, though a Telmarine, he is a follower of Aslan. After Trumpkin finishes his story, the children discuss the quickest way to get to Aslan's How, the ancient mound where Caspian's army is stationed. Once they finally agree on a route, they have to prove to Trumpkin that they are not merly children but, in fact, the High Kings and Queens of Narnia. After they have out shot, and beaten Trumkin in swordplay, he finally believes them. They all decide to stay at Cair Paravel that night, and start for the camp in the morning.

They have several adventures on their way to Caspian's camp, the most notable of which is when Aslan guides them across a gorge. With Aslan's help, they soon arrive and the boys are sent inside the mound. There they encounter, and battle with, a werewolf and a hag, as well as the treacherous dwarf Nikabrik. After a short fight, all of their enemies are dead, and High King peter, King Edmund, and Prince Caspian have been properly introduced. They soon decide that the best plan of action is to challenge king Miraz, Caspian's wicked uncle, to single combat. High King Peter is victorious over king Miraz, and all the Telmarines surrender. Prince Caspian is crowned King Caspian under Aslan's authority. Aslan brings all the Telmarines, and the children, to a place in the forest where he opened a door into the children's world. Aslan tells Peter and Susan that they are too old to get back to Narnia, and then they are sent through the door back to London, and home.

This book impacted my life in an interesting way. i have been in a Christian setting all my life, but i have had a hard time understanding, and loving Christ. i always saw him as a Judge, never as a loving, caring Deliverer. That was where i was until i started reading, and studying these books. The Chronicles of Narnia are a supposal of the Bible, so if Aslan is a supposal of Christ, i can't help but love him. Aslan is everything i have ever wanted Christ to be, and so many people agree that Aslan is an excellent vision of Christ. So, these books, and this one in particular, have helped to strengthen my faith, and shown me what Christ is truly like. That is why this is my favorite book.
